At the initial stage of production, vinyl film is a colorless, translucent film, which is then painted to obtain matte films or metallized to obtain glossy mirror films. The film is colored by adding dyes to the mass with the original vinyl raw material. For metallization and obtaining shiny glossy coatings on the surface of vinyl films, metal aluminum is used, which is placed in a vacuum chamber in a heating device (evaporator), where at a sufficiently high temperature (about 1500 C) in a vacuum, aluminum begins to evaporate intensively, as a result of which aluminum atoms freely and quickly spread into the surrounding space of the vacuum chamber. In the vacuum chamber, special cooled rolls are installed, outwardly resembling drums, through which a transparent vinyl film is fed at a speed of 450-500 m / min. During the passage of the film, the film is actively cooled, as a result of which, when the temperature of the film substrate becomes below the critical value, aluminum condensation occurs on its surface and thus a "chrome-plated" vinyl film is obtained. To obtain color glossy chrome films, for example, "golden chrome", "black chrome" or "blue chrome" films, after metallization in a separate chamber, a color laminating coating is applied to the metallized vinyl film. The advantage of the vacuum method of metallization of the vinyl film surface is the high purity and uniformity of the deposited shiny coating, versatility (it is possible to apply metals, alloys, dielectrics), as well as the relative simplicity of the process.
